Meet Alexis+Corey

Today it's Alexis and Corey's turn!

1: How did you two meet one another?
We met through work August 2006. We both work for Whirlpool Corporation and had worked together for three years. We were both living our separate lives, but had become good friends and found we had a lot in common. Three years later, December 26, 2008 was our first date.

2: What is your favorite thing about one another?
Corey: My favorite thing about Alexis is her heart for others, her empathy. She is really emotionally intelligent and thinks through how she feels and how others maybe feeling.. I've seen it manifested in so many different ways since we have been together and it always melts my heart to see her thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity. I know she will think through issues well that will come up in our lives and I can always go to her with anything and everything. I love that and I love her, she is so special and I am so lucky.

Alexis: My favorite thing about Corey is the way he wiggles his toes tying them in knots and wears his socks half on and half off when he’s lounging around the house. It’s these habits that gave him his nickname Monkey. Who couldn’t love those Monkey toes? ;0)

3: What is your most memorable moment with one another?
Corey: Well we have had a few, but my most memorable is our engagement. The Lord was with us it because it could not have worked out any more perfect, see question 5.

Alexis: Our first vacation together, May 2009. We took a five day cruise. We got to enjoy each other, time to relax and met two great couples. It was the first time we spent five days – every moment and minute together – and enjoyed every bit of it.

4: What is your ideal date?
Corey: Alexis would curl her hair and get all pretty and dressed up and we would start off with some drinks at some quaint, unique, establishment. We would then go for a very nice romantic dinner with awesome food and atmosphere. We would then put on some more comfortable shoes and walk around and see some cool things wherever we maybe....just walk together and hold each others hand and talk and enjoy each other. We would then come home and play with the puppies and cuddle with each other on the couch and watch one of our favorite shows and then call it a night with us falling asleep together in each others arms.

Alexis: A day/night away from the house where the only thing we have to focus on is one another. We do not have children, yet our lives are so busy with friends, family, work, house up-keep and our two dogs. We have found that we focus 100% of our time and thoughts on each other when we can escape from everyday activities. In the summer, we love to take the boat to a cove and just enjoy each other, relaxing and being together.

5: How did the proposal take place?
August 1, 2009. We had a “date weekend” and it was Corey’s turn to plan the evening events which we usually kept a surprise. I thought it might be “the night” when Corey wanted to find the best bottle of wine at the wine store and was sneaking around my house packing a blanket and a few other things. But on the way to dinner, Corey mentioned that he needed to get my mother’s phone number from me before he left on business Monday. This triggered me to relax, because I knew he was going to ask my mom for my hand in marriage before he would ask me, so that night was not going to be “the night.”

We went to dinner at the Regas (the first time I had ever been there). After a wonderful dinner we moved to the Regas lounge to listen to the live band, dance and talk. Corey said he had plans for us to have desert elsewhere so we left and headed back to Maryville around ten.

Corey pulled into the Parkway and kept driving till we came to the fourth pull over. We parked. He pulled out the blanket and a basket with wine and cheesecake. What a romantic evening he had planned! I was relaxing on the blanket and gazing up at the stars when Corey pulled out his computer and said there was something he wanted to show me. Curious, I watched as a video started to play with pictures of me as infant, pictures of Corey as an infant and Martina McBride’s “Valentine” playing in the background… Three minutes later the last slide said “And I want the world to know how much I love this woman…”

I was confused and so excited about the video that I didn’t even realize that it had started raining. I was asking to watch the video again and Corey asked me to stand up (I still was clueless, talking about the video, asking where he had gotten the pictures from, etc). I saw a little white box through the dark and the rain and realized Corey was on his knee. …Through tears and soaked by the rain - I said YES!

(p.s. he had already talked to my mom two weeks before – hence, where he got the pictures of me as an infant. He knew that would throw me off. Smart, smart man!)

6: Favorite movie for each of you and why?
Corey: My favorite movie is Rudy because I love seeing someone overcome the odds by give something all their heart through hard work, guts, and persistence. In this movie, it shows how giving all your heart to something can make a huge difference in your own life and in the lives of people around you.

Alexis: Marley and Me – it’s corny, but this was the movie we went to see on our first date. It combined our love for dogs and made us both laugh and – me cry. The first time Corey ever saw me cry was on our first date and he was so sweet and tried to help me laugh it off. It was that day, that movie that made me see a man that I could love beyond our business/working relationship.

7: Where was your 1st kiss?
Corey: Our first kiss was the night of our first date, December 26, 2008. We had spent a full day with each other and had come back to Alexis’ house for dinner. Right before I left I saw my chance and I leaned in to give her a kiss – tripping over the dogs. She rated my kiss a 6 that night – but I know it was because of the dogs… it made me lose my groove.

8: Favorite TV show to watch together and why?
60 Minutes. We can talk about the show for hours after or days later. It’s a well rounded show that touches on everything from politics, music, sports, charities, etc. The topics cause lots of conversation, debates, and discussion between the two of us that we both look forward to.

9: Favorite flavor of ice cream for each of you?
Corey: Chocolate

Alexis: Vanilla

10: Where do you see yourselves in 10 years?
Well, we’re what you would call “planners” so we have a few ideas for the next ten years. We see ourselves with 3-4 children, with the youngest around eight years old. Alexis will have graduated with her Masters in Entrepreneurial Business and working for a small business or perhaps have started her own company. Corey will be working in a corporate environment as a Sales Director utilizing his Masters degree that he received in 2008. We will own our five bedrooms home and enjoy the company of two dogs. We will be living no more than 4-6 hours away from our extended family so that visits home are easier. And if all works out; taking 1 week of vacation a year – just Corey and Alexis so that our love and attention to one another is never lost.

Thanks for sharing your story Alexis and Corey! Good luck!

Wes
